Mother’s Day 2021 & 2026

2021
Very early into dating, you decided you wanted to celebrate Mother’s Day for me. You knew I had parented alone for years and thought a picnic was a perfect way to enjoy the day. I packed the picnic: egg salad sandwiches, fruit, and pickled cucumbers. You brought the blanket, a chess board, and flowers for me.
We spent a quiet day picnicking and you played chess with Brody. I took my first picture of us, laying down in the park. We took many but looking at how I was looking at you back then, you can see I was already smitten. You were so caring and sweet.
We wrapped up that day with a trip for ice cream, a thing we would do often while dating despite it always hurting your stomach. You always enjoyed a good ice cream.

2026
This Mother’s Day looked different. Our lives had grown. Our family was different. We still planned it around food and bought flowers. We invited the moms in our lives over and celebrated together. You were quieter this time. More tired but still involved. You loved on our baby and shared moments with her and your mom and me. We are together and shared the afternoon.
We shopped for my gifts together. Not because I wanted to see what you picked but because I liked shopping with you. I walked around the store with you and we got some diapers and talked about options and I would walk away and not look at the cart. You kept saying it was weird but I hope you believed me when I said I was enjoying it and was happy to be there with you.
I’ll miss the day to day shopping with you. I’ll miss you terribly every Mother’s Day. Thank you for always making them special for me and our family. I love you.
